A Portuguese man of Guinean descent was arrested with seven kilograms of cocaine at Bissau airport as he prepared to take a flight from Guinea-Bissau to Portugal, the local Judicial Police (PJ) said this Friday.
In a statement published on the official website, the SP of Guinea-Bissau explains that the “arrest at the scene of the crime” took place on Thursday at Oswaldo Vieira International Airport.
According to the source, the detainee is a “citizen of Portugal and Guinea,” who “will have cocaine plates with a total weight of seven kilograms hidden in a trolley bus.”
“The suspect was preparing to board a Transportadora Aérea Portuguesa (TAP) flight to Lisbon, Portugal, when he was intercepted by airport agents for combating human trafficking (CAAT) of the judicial police,” police said.
The SP adds that “the arrest of the drug dealer immediately triggered an operation by the National Drug Enforcement Unit (UNCD), which culminated hours later with the arrest of another national (Guinean) accomplice.”
Authorities suspect the alleged accomplice was “the one who delivered the drugs” to the first detainee, believed to be a “courier” in the drug trade.
The two suspects will be transferred to the prosecutor’s office for the application of appropriate coercive measures.
