Prime Minister António Costa admitted this Monday that Portugal will be able to activate the European Union Solidarity Fund after calculating the amount of damage caused by bad weather over the past few days and if the necessary assumptions are confirmed.
In Parliament and responding to several MPs at the preparatory debate in the European Council on Thursday regarding the extreme weather conditions that have affected the country and the possible activation of European assistance, António Costa said: “Of course yes” if the necessary requirements, as Portugal has already done in others cases.
“Portugal activated (the Fund) whenever the requirements for it were checked. First, you need to know the amount of damage, and this is already being done,” the Prime Minister replied.
