According to IPMA, about 100 municipalities in the districts of Faro, Santarém, Portalegre, Castelo Branco, Guarda, Viseu, Aveiro, Vila Real and Bragança pose the highest risk of rural fires this Saturday.
The Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA) has also placed over 60 municipalities in the districts of Braga, Porto, Aveiro, Coimbra, Leiria, Lisbon, Portalegre, Beja and Faro at very high risk.
Other municipalities, especially in the Alentejo and on the northern and central coast, are at high fire risk this Saturday.
Esposende in Viana do Castelo is the only municipality on the continent that does not have any associated fire risk on the IPMA scale.
Due to weather conditions, the risk of fire will continue until at least Tuesday.
This risk, defined by IPMA, has five levels, from low to high, and the calculations are based on air temperature, relative humidity, wind speed and rainfall over the past 24 hours.
IPMA is forecasting cloudy skies on the continent this Saturday through the end of the morning, with the possibility of light to scattered showers, strong winds on the west coast and highlands, and a sharp drop in temperature.
The minimum temperature ranges from 12 degrees Celsius (in Viseu and Guarda) to 20 (in Faro), and the maximum ranges from 22 (in Guarda and Viana do Castelo) to 33 (in Faro).
