During communion, during a Mass in Spanish at the Capelinha das Apariões, in the sanctuary of Fatima, 64-year-old Father Juan Antonio Noriego Higueras suffered a cardiac arrest.
The priest was saved by a team of Sanctuary guards, who were joined by a doctor present at the meeting.
Father Juan Higueras was taken to Torres Novas Hospital in cardiac arrest. Death will be ascertained in a medical facility.
In a statement, the Archbishopric of Mérida Badajoz explained that the priest held the position of rector of the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Piedad in Almendralejo. This Friday the body has not yet been transported to Spain.
