Canoeist Fernando Pimenta, who won three medals at the World Championships in Germany, is regarded this Sunday as one of the strongest and most resilient athletes on the planet, ensuring he remains at the top of international sport.
“I’m probably one of the strongest athletes in the world in terms of endurance. Physically and mentally, I am one of the strongest in the world. A person who is able to overcome himself and overcome any kind of obstacles without fear of any problems,” he stressed.
Pimenta spoke after winning his third medal at the World Championships in Duisburg, silver in the K1 5000 meters, followed by bronze in the K1 500 meters and gold in the Olympic K1 1000 meters.
“If I was challenged to a 200km bike or marathon right now, I would be perfectly capable of it. Fernando has no limits and no expiration date, he is here to turn!” he stressed.
After winning his 134th medal in international competition, Pimenta congratulated João Ribeira and Messias Baptista on the world title they won today in the K2 500m Olympic distance: “I know how you feel.”
He also left congratulations to Teresa Protele, “who in principle also has an Olympic spot” in the K1 500, at her fifth Games, who had just missed official registration, and a few words to Emanuel Silva, who failed to qualify for the K4 500, what will be his sixth Olympic Games.
“The end of an athlete’s career should be at the top of the pyramid, and I hope that all government and federation structures know how to honor the memory of Emanuel Silva, who was one of the pioneers of canoeing in Portugal and my Olympic medal partner in London. 2012,” he praised, referring to the silver in the K2 1000m.
Now it’s time to “celebrate three medals” including the “royal race title” because, as he guarantees, “the canoeing world opened its mouth” after his performance in Duisburg.
“Because of the positivity, I participate in all the races … and for this reason I am leaving here directly to Denmark for the World Marathon Championship,” he concluded.
