The Community of Portuguese Speaking Countries (CPLP) this Sunday reaffirmed its solidarity with the government and people of Mozambique in the fight against terrorism in Cabo Delgado (north) and welcomed the completion of the disarmament of Renamo (opposition).
The nine CPLP member states, gathered at the 14th conference in the capital Sao Tome, reaffirm their “solidarity with the government of Mozambique and the people in the fight against terrorism in the province of Cabo Delgado, welcoming the support of international partners”, in particular, what was provided by Member States for the purpose of humanitarian assistance, stabilization of the security situation, reconstruction and socio-economic development,” reads the final declaration, approved this Sunday.

The President of Guinea-Bissau, Oumaro Sissoko Embalo, also deserves a word of congratulations “for the progress made during his leadership” of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS).
The Community also condemns the 26 July coup d’état in Niger and expresses its “full support” to the African Union and ECOWAS in their efforts to resolve the crisis and restore constitutional order, preferring the use of peaceful means.
Finally, he expresses “deep concern about the situation in Myanmar”, rejecting the violence used against the civilian population, and declares his full support for peace efforts aimed at restoring a constitutional and democratic order.
