A 40-year-old man killed his 60-year-old mother in an apartment in Dresden, Germany. After committing the crime, he broke into a downtown radio station where he fired several shots and then fled to a drug store in a mall where he took two hostages. As a result, he was detained by the authorities around 12:30 local time (11:30 in Lisbon).

According to the newspaper Build, a man described by police as “mentally unstable” broke into Radio Dresden and shot at the fire door at the entrance, but made no progress. When the radio station staff contacted the police, the man got into the car and fled towards the city center. He entered a pharmacy in the Altmarkt-Galerie shopping center, allegedly armed, and took a woman and a child hostage.
The shopping center and surrounding areas had to be evacuated.
Thomas Geithner, a police spokesman, said the man was arrested around 12:30 pm local time (11:30 am in Lisbon) with injuries and that the two abductees were unharmed.
