A 49-year-old man was killed and three others were injured as a result of a collision between two cars on Tuesday at kilometer 92 of the IP2 highway in Marialva, municipality of Meda, Guarda. Traffic was closed in both directions, reopening this Wednesday around 1:15 am.
According to a source from the sub-regional command of Beiras and Serra da Estrela, four of the wounded were imprisoned. The fatal victim, the driver of one of the vehicles carrying the two women aged 47 and 18 who were injured in the accident, was subjected to resuscitation maneuvers by the INEM ambulance crew, but to no avail.
A 25-year-old woman was seriously injured while driving another vehicle involved in the accident.
There were 37 operators on site, supported by 14 vehicles and the INEM Air Force. Among them are the volunteer firefighters of Meda, Trancoso, Vila Nova de Foz Coa, VMER and immediate life support services.
Technicians from GNR and Ascendi were also called to the scene.
The alarm was raised at 17:52 when the road was closed to traffic.
