The Working Committee (CT) of Autoeuropa will meet this Monday with the company to discuss the financial terms of the “suspension” during the announced nine-week shutdown of production at the Palmela car plant in Setúbal County.
On Thursday, the company said it would suspend production for nine weeks, from Sept. 11 to Nov. 12, due to difficulties with a Slovenian supplier “severely affected” by floods in that country last August.
Volkswagen’s Palmela plant has also said it intends to take “downsizing” during the shutdown, but CT understands the company can guarantee income for all employees.
CT, which admits to being aware of an internal communication in which the company also provides for the termination of employment contracts with temporary workers, promises to do everything to protect the rights of all permanent workers during the “cutbacks”, as well as try to find solutions to avoid layoffs around 100 temporary workers at the Volkswagen plant in Palmela.
“Layoff” is a measure that involves the temporary reduction of normal working hours or temporary suspension of employment contracts for market, structural or technological reasons, including disasters or other events that seriously affect the normal operation of the company. .of a company, provided that such measures are necessary to ensure the economic viability of that company and the preservation of jobs.
Despite announcing a stop to production from September 11 to November 12, Autoeuropa acknowledges that this period “may be shortened as the solution to the problem develops.”
