A group of environmentalists threw pies in the face Michael O’Leary, CEO of Ryanair, spoke to the agency this Thursday to protest the airline’s carbon footprint. Reuters.
“Stop pollution!” shouted a protester, hitting O’Leary in the face with a pie as he prepared to be photographed next to a paper clipping by European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen.
The airline’s CEO, who traveled to Brussels to request that flights be allowed to cross French airspace during attacks on that country’s air traffic control, reacted ironically to the incident. “I love cream cakes. They are my favourites,” he told reporters on the scene.
“My only complaint was that the cream was artificial and tasteless,” he added.
The protesters did not identify themselves or indicate whether they belong to any organization.
