Benfica President Rui Costa was proud this Thursday to have won the 38th national football title won in 2022/23, but ensured the Eagles won’t go easy at the Portugal League gala.
At the first gala of the Liga Portugal Awards, held this Thursday in Alfandega do Porto, Rui Costa received the Champion’s award, the “red” emblem, which managed to return to the top of Portuguese football.
“Obviously, for me and for all Benfica fans, the victory in this 38th national championship is a reason for great pride. And therefore, the fact that we won last year makes us want to win again. This is the path we want to take. follow like roger [Schmidt] said we could be here again next year,” he said in his acceptance speech for the award.
Rui Costa was also asked to compare pride in accomplishments as president with the feeling of winning as a player.
“If I didn’t say that I’m not very proud of this title, I would be lying. Victories with my club: from a fan, a player, a coach, and now the president … of my club, it was a childhood dream. But since I am a dreamer, there are many more dreams in this house,” he admitted.
