Coach Luis Castro, who manages Cristiano Ronaldo and Al-Nasr Otavio, said this Thursday that the Saudi Arabian league “could go to a higher level” than the Portuguese if it continues to develop as expected.
Luis Castro spent several days in Portugal during a national team commitment stop and made statements to the media at Lisbon’s Humberto Delgado Airport before returning to Saudi Arabia to compare championships.
“The Saudi League is quality, it has the best players in the world and it is growing. They will tell me that at the beginning of the season we took five players. [4-1] Benfica, which we lost well and should have lost by a large margin, but given the way we were at the time and the way we are today, maybe now it would be a very balanced game. Therefore, it can be said that the leagues are at a good level, although the Saudi league could move to a higher level if it develops to the expected level,” the Portuguese coach analyzed.
Luis Castro’s remarks came a day after Cristiano Ronaldo said he considered the Saudi Arabian championship to be better than the Portuguese one, which he likened to a “circus” due to the controversy involved causing too much media attention. .
“Supporting a club is not necessarily against another club. Do what you want,” he began with words.
Luis Castro, 62, understands that Portugal has “a lot to gain” if it stays “on the path of developing young players and academies by hiring the best players it can with its financial strength and if it can look inside and recruit the best players. who leave this or that club.
“There are three growth vectors that I think will be critical to the growth of the League. If we are all convinced that this is viable, I think we can have a sharp increase. Our trophies and clubs may well contribute to the growth of the selection,” he stressed.
Again, as a comparison, Luis Castro cited the example of Saudi League visibility in countries such as Brazil or Spain, for example, which broadcast the country’s competitions, unlike Portugal, which is losing international prominence.
“I know that the Portuguese officials are concerned about making the League better, but this is only possible when everyone sits down at the table and clearly and respectfully understands which direction to go. Now, if everyone looks inward and wants to go their own way, no matter what other clubs do, there is no way to improve. What others do with opinions and then reach a consensus,” he concluded.
Al-Nasr is currently sixth in the Saudi Arabian Championship with nine points in a competition led by Al-Hilal, Jorge Jesus and Ruben Neves, and Al-Taawon with 13.
