A fire rages in the village of Paleiros, in Torres do Mondego, Coimbra.
The flame broke out in Torres do Mondego at 15:15.
As of 7:15 am, fire continued from two active fronts, a civil defense source told Lusa.
“Now the situation is calmer. We have some hotspots, but these are more inaccessible hotspots on the steepest slopes. We have pedestrians and track cars to see if they can get there,” Commander Paulo Palrilla told Luce.
According to fire commander Sapadores in Coimbra, air reinforcements are planned this morning: two Kamovs and two Alphas.
According to Palrilla, there are no houses or people in the risk area.
This Friday at 7:50 am, 542 operators were on site with the support of 164 vehicles.
A source from the sub-regional command of the Coimbra region told Luza this Thursday at 22:10 that the fire is still active and that one of the fronts is large, next to EN17, Estrada da Beira.
While fighting the blaze, two firefighters were treated for smoke inhalation and are considered minor injuries, Nuno Seixas, 2nd Commander of the Sub-Regional Command of the Coimbra Region, said in a statement to RTP.
The fire engine was damaged during the day. The car belongs to the volunteer firefighters of Condeixa a Nova. As a result of the incident, no one was injured.
Thiago Picao, the head of this corporation, explained cm that due to a sudden change in the wind, the car caught fire. The operatives fled the scene.
The truck was reportedly on fire for several minutes. After this time, the firefighters returned to the truck, which is again in the theater of operations.
