Vegetables grown in the Astrakhan region are sent to store shelves in major cities of Russia and even Siberia, the region’s Minister of Agriculture and Fisheries Ruslan Pashayev announced on September 8 during a conference of press.
The minister stressed that the region has earned the status of a donor from Russia for the supply of vegetables. The products of Astrakhan vegetable growers can be found on the shelves of stores in the most remote corners of the country.
According to the information provided by the ministry, at this time the total volume of shipments outside the region amounted to 337 thousand tons. Of them, more than 70% arrived in Moscow and the Moscow region (130 thousand tons), as well as in St. Petersburg (110 thousand tons). 97 thousand tons were sent to the regions of central Russia, the Urals and Siberia.
This season, farmers harvested 1.5 million tons of vegetables and 420 thousand tons of potatoes. The leaders in cleanliness remain the Akhtubinsky, Enotaevsky, Kharabalinsky and Chernoyarsky districts of the Astrakhan region.
In addition, according to Pashayev, the region plans to exceed the fish supply plan. According to the forecasts of the Ministry of Agriculture of the region, in total Astrakhan fishermen should catch between 40,000 and 45,000 tons of fish during the autumn fishing season.
