“Besides the fact that such activity is false, it would also be impossible within the strict policies of the Vatican Bank and the international sanctions that also apply to the financial sector,” guarantees the banking institution, quoted by Efe.
According to the statement, the Vatican Bank “is a supervised financial intermediary that operates through international correspondent banks of the highest repute and impeccable reputation and is guided by international standards.”
In an interview with Canal 24, Mikhailo Podolyak stated that “we need to look at the investments that they [a Rússia] are made at the Vatican Bank, analyze them in a little more detail.”
An adviser to Vladimir Zelensky also said Pope Francis could no longer play a mediating role in the war between Ukraine and Russia after claiming the legacy of the Russian Empire in a message addressed to young Russians.
Podolyak said Francis’ words seriously affect the “reputation of the Holy See” and “nullify” the possibility of “any mediation mission” that the Vatican could undertake.
“There is no point in talking about the Pope as a mediator if he takes a pro-Russian position, this is completely obvious to everyone,” Efe quotes.
