The first group of Portuguese, 102 citizens rescued from Morocco, arrived in Portugal early this Sunday morning. An air force plane carrying two Portuguese injured in the 6.9 magnitude earthquake, whose epicenter was about 65 kilometers southwest of Marrakesh, landed at Lisbon airport at about 5:00 am.
Secretary of State for Portuguese Communities Paulo Cafofo received the citizens of the country upon their arrival in Portugal.
“I received the nationals of the country who were in Morocco and who, after a serious earthquake that occurred in that country, were transported by the Portuguese Air Force. The operation organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of National Defense made it possible to return to Portugal from someone who is very scared,” he wrote on the social network X/Twitter.
The next flight arrives at 12:45. The government allows for the possibility of sending more funds if required.
