The Piornos-Torre-Lagoa-Comprida road in Serra da Estrela was closed to traffic on Wednesday at 7:15 pm due to snowfall, a source from Castelo Branco District Relief Operations Command (CDOS) told Lusa.
According to the same source, the closure of National Road 338 extends to sections Piornos/Crumento da Torre (Section 11), Crumento da Torre/Torre (12) and Lagoa Comprida/Crumento da Torre (13).
There are no forecasts for the opening of areas closed to traffic yet.
The Portuguese Institute of the Sea and the Atmosphere (IPMA) has extended until Wednesday 21:00 yellow warnings for precipitation in almost all areas of the continent, with the exception of Braganca, without predicting similar warnings later, including on Thursday.
According to information available on the IPMA website, a yellow weather warning, the least severe on a three-point scale, remains in place until 9:00 pm in 17 districts due to the forecast for “rain showers, sometimes heavy and accompanied by thunderstorms.”
After this time, no further precipitation warnings are issued.
