A fire that broke out in a building in Hanoi, the capital of Vietnam, killed 56 people and injured 37 others, police said on Wednesday, citing Reuters. Among the dead are children.
According to the official Vietnam News Agency, the fire started at night in a nine-story building where about 150 people live. The same source also reports that the fire was contained around 2:00 am local time (20:00 Lisbon time).
Several victims were taken to local hospitals with multiple injuries after they jumped from the building’s windows to escape the fire, state media reported.
The owner of the building was detained by police on charges of violating fire safety regulations, the Vietnamese Ministry of Public Security said in a statement, quoted by the publication. ReutersHe added that the investigation into the case is ongoing.
