The beach of Foz do Lizandro, located near Ericeira in the municipality of Mafra, was closed to swimming again this Friday due to seawater pollution, the National Maritime Administration (ANM) said in a statement.
“The beach was closed to swimming today after water quality tests carried out by the Portuguese Environmental Protection Agency (APA) showed microbiological values exceeding reference parameters, rendering the water unsuitable for swimming,” ANM reported.
In light of the test results, the regional health delegate has ordered the red flag to be raised.
The ban will remain in effect until the results of water quality tests show that microbiological indicators are within control parameters.
For the same reason, Foz do Lisandro beach was closed for swimming from the 6th to the 13th.
A ban on swimming was also in effect from the 6th to the 9th at Algodio beach, also in the municipality of Mafra, in the district of Lisbon.
At the beginning of August, for the same reasons, Praia dos Pescadores beach, located next to the old town of Ericeira, was closed for swimming for four days.
