The ousted president Pedro Castillo condemned the visit of the United States ambassador in Lima, Lisa Kenna, to the Government Palace. According to him, this visit “it was not free for the country”.
“This was done to give the order to take troops out into the streets and destroy my defenseless people, along the way, clearing the way for mining companies”the legitimately elected president wrote in a letter.
At the same time, the Peruvian Congress today rejected a proposal to hold general elections in 2023. Meanwhile, massive protests continue in the country, which began after the resignation of Castillo and the swearing in of Vice President Boluarte as the country’s new president. Some 20 people have already been killed in violent protests and clashes with police.
