Hundreds of activists gathered in London and other European cities this Saturday to mark the anniversary of the death of Mahsa Amini, a 22-year-old Iranian Kurd who died in police custody in Iran last year.
With shouts of “Women! Life! Freedom!” The crowd held up a portrait of Amini, displaying in memory of the young woman who died on September 16, 2022, after being detained on charges of violating Iran’s mandatory headscarf law, the Associated Press (AP) reported. Similar protests took place in Rome, Berlin and Brussels.
Amini’s death sparked protests around the world and inside Iran, where authorities tried to stop the anniversary from reigniting the protests that devastated the country last year.
