The President of the Academic Federation of Porto (FAP) announced this Saturday that 40 higher education scholarship students who managed to secure a place in the new university residence managed by FAP will receive an annual scholarship of 500 euros.
“We have signed a protocol with the Universities of Santander and therefore students who live here will receive an annual scholarship of 500 euros as a result of the partnership we are developing here,” said Luse Gabriela Cabillas.
On the sidelines of an interview she gave to Lusa about the university residence Academia 24, which opened this academic year in the historical center of Porto, Gabriela Cabillas said that the 40 students who will open the new university residence, in addition to receiving an annual scholarship of 500 euros, will also a number of workshops were held to better integrate into this new stage of life.
“At this stage of integration, we have planned a number of group sessions and workshops to promote good integration,” and to facilitate this integration, the absolute value of the scholarship will be awarded at the end of the calendar year, therefore December 2023.
Gabriela Cabillas expressed regret that FAP was unable to apply for the University Residence Plan of Recovery and Resilience (PRR) project, but believes that this project, run by Porto students, is proof that student associations and federations can and must be organizations eligible to finance such a project. like the PRR, from which they were “banned.”
“We have already proven that we are worthy of the vote of confidence that we so much demand, and therefore thinking about the country involves thinking together with young people,” he believes, repeating that students were blocked from accessing funding, but projects such as the residential university, driven by FAP, can inspire for the present or the future.
The FAP president believes that student associations and federations can apply for financial support plans and funds “on equal terms with other organizations.”
The university residence Academia 24 opened this academic year with 40 places for scholarship students in the historical center of Porto and will be managed by FAP in a building that was provided to students for 30 years by the Porto City Council.
