On Tuesday, world leaders called for more efforts to address growing global food insecurity exacerbated by multiple crises, Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and a shortage of fertilizer.
The United States, the European Union, the African Union, Colombia, Nigeria and Indonesia reaffirmed their “commitment to act urgently, in a comprehensive and coherent manner to meet the urgent food needs of hundreds of millions of people around the world in a joint declaration, released following a ministerial meeting on the sidelines of the General Assembly UN in New York.
In particular, they pledged to increase financial support for humanitarian organizations and not impose restrictions on the food and fertilizer markets, measures to increase agricultural production.
