Portuguese citizens are among the main victims of discrimination in Luxembourg, along with immigrants of African origin, the Council of Europe warned on Tuesday, highlighting the areas of employment, education and housing as the most problematic.
A report on Luxembourg by ECRI (European Commission against Racism and Intolerance), an independent body of the Council of Europe that monitors these issues, concluded that “foreign children or children of foreign parents, especially Portuguese, continue to face serious problems. in the field of education”.
In terms of schooling, foreign children or descendants of foreigners, especially those of Portuguese origin, participate in higher numbers in technical/vocational education at the secondary school level and are twice as likely to leave school or training early.
