United Nations (UN) Secretary-General António Guterres said this Wednesday that the Climate Ambition Summit in New York showed that it is possible to accelerate a “just transition to a green global economy.”
In his closing speech at the Climate Ambition Summit, Guterres struck a tone of optimism, motivated by the “concrete measures” the event presented for “a world of clean air and affordable clean energy for all.”
“We can take significant steps in the right direction. And you did it. Today we heard about (…) measurable steps to accelerate decarbonization and protect those on the front lines of the climate crisis. And about the steps taken together to accelerate action and climate change. justice through cooperation and collaboration. I applaud the collaborative efforts we are hearing about today,” he said.
