A bomb blast on Tuesday in Mozambique’s Sofala province killed a 15-year-old boy and wounded two others from the same family, an official said on Wednesday.
The teenager was sitting on a metal object, which, not knowing what it was, the victim’s father tried to saw off, explained Dersio Chakate, a spokesman for the Sofala provincial police department.
“While cutting the metal, the particles that were thrown out eventually caused an explosion” because it was a mine, Dersio Chakate explained at a press conference.
The teenager died at the scene, the minor’s father was also injured and lost a limb due to shrapnel.
“The third victim, who was also nearby, received minor injuries,” and the two wounded were taken to the Dondo Medical Center and the Central Hospital da Beira,” he concluded.
