The main accused in the case of the terrorist attack on the Shah Cherakh mausoleum in Iran’s Fars province was sentenced to capital punishment by the court, the head of the provincial justice department, Kazem Mousavi, said on September 21, IRNA reported. .
The court sentenced defendant Rakhmatolla Novruzov of Tajikistan to death for crimes against Iran’s national security and for cooperation with the terrorist group ISIS (an organization whose activities are banned in the Russian Federation), Mousavi said. Two of his accomplices were sentenced to five years in prison, after which they will be expelled from Iran, he added.
Recall that on August 13, Navruzov, nicknamed Aslamyar, began shooting at the Shah-Cherakh mausoleum. He managed to kill two people and wound seven. He carried with him a machine gun and eight magazines, with a total of 240 cartridges. Before his arrest, he managed to fire 11 shots.
The terrorist group ISIS (an organization whose activities are prohibited in the Russian Federation) took responsibility for the terrorist attack.
As a result of the attack on pilgrims at the mausoleum in October 2022, for which ISIS (an organization banned in the Russian Federation) also claimed responsibility, 15 people died. Two of the attackers were convicted and executed.
Shah Cherakh’s tomb is considered the third most important for Shia Muslims and is regularly visited by pilgrims.
