Agreement between Cape Verde and Microsoft provides for modernization and training

Multinational IT company Microsoft and the government of Cape Verde signed an agreement this Thursday that includes actions to modernize the country’s technological infrastructure and training programs for the population, the chief executive said in a statement.

Pedro Lopez, Secretary of State for the Digital Economy, signed the agreement for Cape Verde.

The goals announced this Thursday also include increasing access to technology and digitalization in remote communities, promoting startups and technology companies, and investing in education, health and community development initiatives.

“This strategic collaboration between Microsoft and the government of Cape Verde has the potential to transform the archipelago into a regional hub for innovation and technological development,” the executive emphasized, noting that “both parties hope to achieve measurable impact, anticipating, for example, significant increases in digital adoption.”

During the ceremony, the Prime Minister of Cape Verde said that “political stability has provided an enabling environment for long-term strategic planning and the effective implementation of digital initiatives,” considering it “a factor that generates confidence among investors and global partners.”

“Our country’s commitment to becoming a technology hub in the sub-region is strengthened by the partnership we are formalizing today. Microsoft, a leading global company in the technology sector, is joining us on this digital journey,” he said.
