The Cape Verdean government will increase the number of social inclusion income recipients “from 2,600 to more than 9,000” in the 2024 state budget, Finance Minister Olavo Correia announced on Friday.
The government official spoke at the end of the Social Coordination Council meeting on OE in Praia.
Increasing income from social inclusion was a “consensus agreement” and integrated into one of the budget’s pillars, which is “protecting the most vulnerable,” he said.
“We will continue to deliver a strong program of positive inclusion,” he promised, mentioning another goal: “so that everyone who qualifies can have access to a non-contributory social pension.”
At the educational level, Olavo Correia emphasized the goal of “gradually, by 2026, guaranteeing the conditions so that all children in Cape Verde can attend preschool, regardless of the resources of their parents, and from an early age they can begin the process of this quality.”
A measure with benefits “not only for children, but also for women.”
“We have a goal of eradicating extreme poverty by 2026,” so OE must meet that goal, he concluded.
