The 29-year-old man stole a GNR patrol car on Friday evening at 11pm after gardai were called to a house in Alter do Ciao, Portalegre, following reports of aggression.
When two GNR patrols arrived at the scene, they came across a “visibly changed” man who was threatening to blow up two gas cylinders. When the man noticed the police presence, he threatened them with a knife and glass. After this, “the suspect managed to get into the security car and hide more than a hundred kilometers from the place where he fled,” PNR reports.
Early on Saturday morning, the suspect was arrested in Vila Nova da Barquinha. He required medical attention because he suffered injuries unrelated to the intervention of the PNR.
The house belongs to João Monteiro, who said morning Post that he had met the man the day before and provided him with a house in which to spend the night. “I don’t know him anywhere,” says João.
The 29-year-old man was taken into custody.
An investigation process has also been initiated to more accurately establish the facts.
