The President of the Republic said this Wednesday that “the Prime Minister and the government are awakening” to accelerating the implementation of the Recovery and Resilience Plan (PRR), with Portugal being in a better position compared to other European partners.
“The Prime Minister and the government are aware that time moves quickly and we are still in a situation favored by many European partners,” the head of state said in Albufeira, Algarve.
Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of the “Tourism Factor of National Cohesion” conference organized by the Confederation of Portuguese Tourism, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa said it was essential to speed up implementation, knowing that bureaucratically “it is often difficult because we have a fixed deadline that cannot be overcome “
“When I see the government more actively involved in concrete actions related to the PRR, it means that all Portuguese must be committed to ensuring successful implementation,” he stressed.
The President of the Republic expressed “pleasure with the European decision to increase the European PRR funds for Portugal.”
“This is recognition of the fact that Portugal took a more active role during the pandemic and, on the other hand, suffered from the indirect consequences of the war. [na Ucrânia]”.
According to the head of state, this increase “frees the government from requesting additional loans, since it increases the share of European funds that do not have interest penalties, which would have the resources for more loans.”
“This is good news for all Portuguese,” he concluded.
