The Public Ministry accused four PPR soldiers of complicity in the murder of 62-year-old Alcindo Gomes during a tactical operation in December 2021 in Pinhal Novo, municipality of Palmela, Setubal district.
The indictment, which the Luza agency had access to today, states that the four soldiers, Lieutenant Colonel Marco Gonçalves, Lieutenant Colonel Antonio Quadrado, Lieutenant Enrique Silva and Corporal Nuno Rodriguez, used lethal means, although they could have used other means to force Alcindo Gomes to voluntarily give up.
The document also highlights that defendants Marco Gonçalves from the Setúbal Territorial Command and António Quadrado from the PPR Intervention and Special Operations Group (GOIE) had at their disposal several dogs, an armored car, two negotiators and a total of 66 people. According to prosecutors, Alcindo Gomez was fatally shot by NTC soldiers with five shots as he emerged from a thicket of bushes and trees, pointing a shotgun at the soldiers but remaining motionless and making no movement. shot.
Then, in December 2021, the PNP said in a statement that Alcindo Gomes, “after a clear and unequivocal warning to drop his weapons, disobeyed the order, thus remaining an immediate threat to the lives of the soldiers.”
“It was necessary for the military to resort to the use of firearms in self-defense by striking the suspect to neutralize the threat,” the GNR statement explained.
