Dutch authorities warned the Erasmus Medical Center about the “psychotic behavior” of a suspect in a double shooting in Rotterdam before it happened, the agency said. Reuters.
The man, a 32-year-old university student, killed three people this Thursday while traveling between his home and the aforementioned hospital ward.
On the eve of the tragedy, Dutch authorities sent a letter to the medical center describing the man’s “psychotic behavior” and problems with alcohol. “I anticipate that this information will serve as the basis for deciding whether the individual is eligible to pursue a general medical degree,” the letter states.
Regional television company Rainmond reported that the school decided not to award the student a diploma, but a representative of the Dutch prosecutor’s office refused to confirm this information.
This Thursday, Hugo Hillenaar, Rotterdam’s chief prosecutor, said that detained “he was known to authorities and in 2021 he was prosecuted and found guilty of animal cruelty.”
The suspect is expected to appear in court on October 3.
