This Saturday, the President of the Republic asked the mayors gathered at the congress of the national association of municipalities to try to conclude regime agreements over the next two years in areas such as local finance, PRR and Portugal 2030.
At the final meeting of the XXVI Congress of the National Association of Portuguese Municipalities (ANMP), which takes place in Seixal, Setubal district, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa emphasized that agreements on regimes are not always possible and emphasized that this is the case with the regionalization of the country, which remains unrealized.
However, he stressed that the new local funding regime, the Recovery and Resilience Plan (PRR) and the public program Portugal 2030 are areas for new agreements between mayors representing different political forces.
“Take advantage of the last two years to deepen possible bridges,” he said.
According to the President of the Republic, such bridges should also be created in relations between municipalities and the state, parishes and autonomous regions.
Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa also said mayors had reason to be proud of the first two years of this term, which were “very difficult” as they faced a pandemic and now war.
