Autoeuropa resumes production today after stopping due to parts shortage

The Autoeuropa car plant in Palmela resumes production this Monday after a shutdown that began on September 11 due to a shortage of spare parts at the plant in Slovenia, which was damaged by floods in that country.

The Volkswagen group company announced on September 20 that it would resume production this Monday, October 2, albeit with fewer shifts than usual, but ahead of the resumption of activities by more than a month, which was originally planned only for November 12. .

Autoeuropa postponed the resumption of activity until this Monday after guaranteeing the supply of key parts for the T-Roc, the only car produced at the Palmela plant in the Setubal region together with Spanish and Chinese companies. , thanks to the work of the logistics and purchasing departments of the German brand.

The company was forced to announce a nine-week production shutdown, from September 11 to November 12, due to difficulties at a supplier in Slovenia, which was hit hard by floods in that country in early August last year.

However, the company then assured that it was looking for alternative solutions to restart production as soon as possible, which is now confirmed by the resumption of production expected from November 12 to this Monday, November 2, October.

Autoeuropa is a company with a major influence on the Portuguese economy, accounting for 1.5% of the country’s gross domestic product (GDP).

The shutdown at the Palmela plant has affected dozens of Portuguese suppliers, including several companies located in the Autoeuropa industrial park, which have already announced the layoffs of 325 precarious workers.

Autoeuropa also announced the dismissal of 100 temporary workers due to the production shutdown, but from the outset guaranteed that they would be called back immediately as soon as production resumed.
