The two clubs in Murcia, Spain, that burned down this Sunday, had been operating without a license since 2022. As a result of the tragedy, 13 people were killed and 24 were injured.
“The theater and La Fonda have been operating without permission since the closure order was issued,” said Antonio Navarro, municipal councilor for urban planning in the Murcia city council, quoted by the publication. La Sexta.
According to Navarro, both clubs were part of a single facility and a modification was requested so the facilities could be treated as separate. This change was never authorized, so both bars were ordered to cease operations in early January 2022.
“We are going to act decisively and take private criminal action against the company. This is an unprecedented tragedy,” said the municipal councilor for urban planning.
