Former Brazilian President Lula da Silva, the favorite in the Oct. 2 presidential election, acknowledged his dissatisfaction with the country’s 2014 World Cup on Tuesday.
“We almost destroyed ourselves,” Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva said.
“I confess that I am disappointed with the World Cup, if I could behave like an ostrich, stick my head in the sand and never pull it out again, I would,” he added.
During a campaign tourism event, Lula said that allegations of corruption in the construction of the World Cup stadiums soured the atmosphere of the tournament, despite the fact that the Federal Audit Chamber, he said, assured him that during the construction of the Maracanã in Rio de Janeiro only one specific mistake was made.
