The board of directors of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) demanded in the form of an ultimatum the resignation of the general secretary of the Belarusian Red Cross (CRB), Dmitri Shevtsov, reported on October 4 press service of the federation. .

“…relieve Secretary General Dmitry Shevtsov from his position no later than November 30, 2023”says a statement issued in Geneva.
The International Federation has threatened to suspend the Belarusian Red Cross’ membership in the federation and stop providing it with new funding if the resignation requirement is not met by November 30.
“If the Belarusian Red Cross does not take the necessary measures to remove the current Secretary General, the membership rights of the national society will be automatically suspended on November 30, 2023”the statement also says.
The International Federation also announced the completion of the investigation into Shevtsov’s activities, according to the international organization’s website.
An international organization accused Shevtsov of violating “the fundamental principles of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement, the rules for the use of its emblems and the Integrity Policy of the International Federation”.
Previously, Shevtsov was criticized by some states for his trip to Donetsk and Lugansk in July this year. The International Federation issued a statement stating that the circumstances of Shevtsov’s visit were fundamental principles of the federation.
The International Federation contacted the Belarusian Red Cross and expressed “serious concern and to prevent any such activity in the future.” Additionally, the federation contacted the IFRC-KP Mediation and Legal Compliance Committee to investigate the incident.
