The 41-year-old British man who drowned on San Pedro de Moel beach on Wednesday was part of a group of people undergoing drug treatment at a detox clinic in Marinha Grande and regularly visiting the beach. When the tragedy occurred, the various members of the group were together on the beach under the supervision of those in charge of the establishment.
Accompanied by a Dutch citizen, the Briton went out to sea, but was carried away by the force of the current. He was saved by a surfer who realized the situation, and rescuers on the spot carried out resuscitation measures, but they could not turn the situation around. The Dutchman managed to get out of the water under his own power.
