Prime Minister António Costa and the President of the Assembly of the Republic, Augusto Santos Silva, condemned this Saturday the “terrorist attacks” by Hamas on Israeli territory.
“The terrorist attacks on Israel this Saturday are unacceptable and deserve our strong condemnation. We mourn the victims of these attacks and express our words of solidarity to their families,” António Costa said on Network X, formerly Twitter.
The President of the Assembly of the Republic, Augusto Santos Silva, also condemned “in the strongest possible terms the terrorist attacks carried out by Hamas in Israel and against the civilian population.”
“These are barbaric acts that cannot be justified,” Santos Silva wrote in X.
Also this Saturday, Charge d’Affaires of the US Embassy in Israel Stephanie Hallett condemned the deaths of Israeli civilians in attacks by “Gaza terrorists”, hinting at an offensive by Palestinian militias.
“The U.S. Embassy in Israel is shocked by the images coming out of southern Israel of dead and wounded civilians at the hands of Gaza terrorists,” Hallett said on Channel X, emphasizing that “the United States stands with Israel.”
The Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) militia fired thousands of rockets into southern Israel and major urban centers such as Jerusalem and Tel Aviv, accompanied by several attacks by hundreds of militiamen on border towns in the Gaza Strip.
The Israeli army immediately responded with a massive air intervention, Operation Iron Swords, in which dozens of Israeli fighter jets struck numerous Islamist targets in the enclave.
Iran said it supported and congratulated Palestinian militias for their “proud” offensive against Israel, accusing the “Zionist regime” of atrocities against the Palestinian people, including minors.
The Palestinian Health Ministry said at least 198 people were killed this Saturday in an Israeli counterattack in the Gaza Strip in response to a Hamas offensive that also killed more than a hundred, according to local medical sources cited by EFE.
