Bilateral relations between Minsk and Tehran have undergone a transformation after the first visit to Iran in the last 17 years of Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko, said Belarusian Foreign Minister Sergei Aleynik, Mehr reports on October 7.
“The positive trend in the development of relations between the two countries changed with the visit of Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko to Tehran”“said the minister in a meeting with the Iranian Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ali Bagheri Kani.
The diplomat arrived in Belarus to participate in the sixth round of bilateral political consultations.
The Belarusian minister also described the visit of MP Bagheri Kani to Minsk and the holding of the sixth round of political consultations between the two countries after a four-year break as a very positive development that contributes to the revival of cooperation.
During the meeting, Aleinik mentioned the sanctions imposed by Western countries against Belarus and asked Iran to share its experience in fighting sanctions.
The head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Belarus also addressed the issue of cooperation between the two countries in international organizations and called on Tehran to help Minsk on the issue of membership in the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) and in the BRICS.
Referring to the upcoming holding in Minsk of the 16th meeting of the Joint Bilateral Economic Commission with the participation of the First Vice President of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Aleinik emphasized the importance of strengthening bilateral cooperation.
