An Aveiro court sentenced a 40-year-old man to eight years and 10 months in prison on charges of committing several robberies on public roads and in residential buildings that occurred in the summer of 2023, according to a ruling seen by Luza on Tuesday. .
According to the Sept. 27 ruling, the single conviction was the result of a legal aggregate of partial sentences imposed on the defendant for three crimes: robbery, two thefts and one computer and communications fraud.
In addition to the prison sentence, the accused, who remains in pre-trial detention until the end of the appeal period, will have to pay 1,500 euros to the three victims.
During the trial, the defendant admitted responsibility for the robberies, citing the need to collect money to satisfy his drug addiction.
The criminal acts occurred between June and September 2023. Two of the robberies took place inside residences where the defendant entered after breaking a glass window.
In one situation, the defendant met a minor at home, from whom he stole a cell phone and a computer. In the second robbery, carried out early in the morning, he surprised a sleeping woman and robbed her of a gold thread containing a medal and four gold rings.
The remaining situations involve robberies on public roads, two of which occurred near the Municipal Stadium of Aveiro.
According to the prosecution, the defendant approached the victims, who were alone, and, at the threat of a sharp weapon, demanded their cell phone and money, and in one situation managed to withdraw 800 euros through the MBWay application.
The accused was arrested by the PSP at the end of September 2023 after an investigation that lasted about three months.
During the operation, searches were carried out (one at home and two outside the home), as a result of which seven mobile phones, two tablets, two GPS navigators, a computer and a carrying case, six watches, a gold thread, three gold rings, a ring were seized , electric scooter and helmet.
Several weapons, foreign money and about 11 doses of hashish were also seized.
