According to the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA), the municipalities of Vila Nova da Barquinha, Tomar and Ferreira do Zezere in Santarém district present the highest risk of rural fires this Wednesday.
IPMA also placed more than 90 municipalities in the districts of Faro, Santarem, Portalegre, Castelo Branco, Guarda, Leiria, Coimbra, Viseu, Braga, Viana do Castelo, Vila Real and Bragança at a very high risk of rural fires.
The IPMA expects the fire danger to increase in some areas until Friday.
This risk, defined by IPMA, has five levels: from low to maximum. Calculations are based on air temperature, relative humidity, wind speed and precipitation over the last 24 hours.
IPMA is forecasting mostly partly cloudy skies for the continent today, generally light winds, fog or morning mist, a slight drop in maximum temperatures on the north and central coasts and a rise in minimum temperatures.
The minimum temperature will range from 12 degrees Celsius (in Bragança) to 18 degrees (in Lisbon, Faro and Coimbra), and the maximum temperature will range from 26 (in Viana do Castelo) to 34 (in Santarem).
