The Afghan government has cut the death toll from an earthquake that struck western Afghanistan on Saturday by nearly half, by “more than a thousand”, as new strong earthquakes rock the same region this Wednesday, causing panic among the population.
A new magnitude 6.3 earthquake struck Herat province this morning, where thousands of people slept on the streets for the fourth night in a row after their homes were reduced to dust by Saturday’s earthquake of equivalent magnitude and its corresponding counterparts.
“It’s terrible, the whole city of Herat is terrified. We’re so scared that even when we see a tree moving [por causa do vento]”We think it’s another earthquake,” Abdul Qudos, 32, told the France-Presse news agency (AFP).
