A sailboat with a Portuguese and two Spaniards on board was attacked by three killer whales yesterday, Tuesday, while sailing between Portugal and France.
The crew of the vessel “Carmen” decided to call at the port of Bayonne in France due to the lack of wind and, as a result, excessive use of fuel in road navigation, which required refueling.
That’s when, about 15 miles east of Pontevedra, in Galicia, the sailboat was surrounded by three large killer whales.
Galizia TV crews reported that the attack “was extremely brutal.” “In addition to attacking the boat, we saw one of the killer whales jump very high, which caused waves,” explained one of the crew members.
Three passengers managed to make it to Bayonne, France, with some fuel still left in the sailboat’s engine. The sailboat suffered damage of an undetermined amount. There are no reports of injuries to passengers.
