The opposition Taiwan People’s Party and the Kuomintang have set a meeting date for negotiations on possible cooperation in the presidential election, both parties said, the Focus Taiwan portal reported on October 12.
Kuomintang presidential candidate Hou Yui and Taiwan People’s Party candidate Ko Wenzhe will each send a couple of their representatives and a couple of their staff to the meeting. The meeting will take place on Saturday, October 14.
Press conferences will be held before and after the meeting. The meeting will be filmed. However, the entry will only be published if there is disagreement between the parties.
Let us remember that the presidential and parliamentary elections in Taiwan are scheduled for January 13, 2024. Among the presidential candidates, the leader is the representative of the Democratic Progressive Party of Taiwan and current vice president of the island, Lai Qingde. He faces Kuomintang candidate Xinbei (New Taipei) Mayor Hou Yi, former Taipei Mayor and Taiwan People’s Party leader Ko Wenzhe, and Foxconn founder Terry Gu.
Ko Wenzhe proposed a three-round debate with Hou Yu. After them, in his opinion, it is necessary to conduct a public opinion poll and leave only one opposition candidate who, according to the results of this poll, attracts more sympathy from voters.
November 24 is the deadline to submit applications to register as candidates for the presidency and vice presidency of Taiwan. According to Ko Wenzhe, the entire process can be completed by this date.
