Portuguese footballers Antonio Silva and Benfica’s Joao Neves are among 25 finalists for the Golden Boy Award, announced this Thursday, which honors the most promising player playing in Europe under the age of 21.
The two Portuguese players are competing against 23 other athletes for the prize, awarded by Italian newspaper Tuttosport, in a group that includes Englishman Jude Bellingham (Real Madrid), German Jamal Musiala (Bayern Munich) and Dutchman Javi Simons, among others. (Leipzig) or Spaniard Lamin Yamal (Barcelona).
In addition to defender Antonio Silva, who was also shortlisted of 20 last year, and midfielder Joao Neves, Ivorian centre-back Ousmane Diomande of Sporting is also shortlisted for the award.
The successor to Spain’s Gavi from FC Barcelona, who received the award in 2022, will be announced on December 4 in Turin.
Recently, two Portuguese received the award: Renato Sánchez in 2016 and Joao Felix in 2019.
