“I want to make it clear that Hamas bears full responsibility for what is happening. Hamas’ actions have nothing to do with the legitimate aspirations of the Palestinian population. On the contrary, the horror unleashed by Hamas only brings more suffering to innocent Palestinians,” Ursula von der Leyen said in a statement after meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in Tel Aviv.
Commission President and Leader of the European Parliament Roberta Metsola traveled to Israel today to demonstrate European Union (EU) solidarity with the Israeli population following last weekend’s surprise attack by Hamas, which was described as the worst in the country’s history.
