Russian President Vladimir Putin this Friday considered the suspicions brought against Moscow of possible sabotage on the gas pipeline between Finland and Estonia to be absurd.
For Putin, these suspicions are the result of an attempt to “divert attention” from the sabotage carried out on the Nord Stream gas pipeline in 2022.
Asked during a press conference in the Kyrgyz capital, Putin replied: “I didn’t even know that this gas pipeline existed.”
He also attributed the problem to a technical problem or “even an earthquake.”
In his opinion, the accusations against the Russian Federation are aimed at “disguising the terrorist act committed by the West against Nord Stream. Distracting attention.”
Finnish authorities are investigating a gas leak discovered off the Finnish coast in the Baltic Sea, which led to the suspension of the Balticconnector gas pipeline on Sunday.
Finnish President Sauli Niinistö said on Tuesday that the gas pipeline leak was likely “the result of external activity,” immediately raising questions about possible Russian interference.
