The betting scandal rocking Italian football, whose names include famous players such as Fagioli, Zaniolo, Tonali or Zalewski, was linked to the social network WhatsApp, the Corriere dello Sport newspaper reported on Saturday.
The Italian newspaper claims that the players in question were involved in a “secret betting network” “led by people they believed they could trust.” It also emerged that an Italy international was also involved, “a man who has often made headlines in recent years despite his young age.”
The operational hub was WhatsApp, but bets were made through a very specific “app”, further pointing to the identified need for mutual trust between participants.
